Consumer genomics

Genomic tests ordered from this laboratory.

Whole-exome sequencing, hereditary cancer panels, carrier screening, and whole-genome sequencing when a case needs it. The library is prepared here. Patient Test Solutions, Inc signs the report.

This page

This page is the offering. The sequencing science is on NGS.

The NGS page explains why we sequence the exome and how MiSeq and NovaSeq read it. Here: which consumer tests we run, how the library is made, and how to place them in the cart.

Tests we can offer

Prepared, sequenced, and interpreted here.

Libraries are built on site, sequenced in this laboratory, and interpreted here. Add a test from the menu, then choose insurance or cash pay.

Exome

Whole-exome sequencing

All protein-coding exons in one test. Used for unexplained disease, hereditary risk, and consumer health workups that need more than a defined gene panel.

Hereditary

Cancer and gene panels

Focused NGS of BRCA1/2 and related hereditary genes when the question is already known. Faster and deeper on the genes that were ordered.

Carrier

Carrier screening

NGS of recessive and X-linked genes as ordered — useful before pregnancy or when family history raises a carrier question.

Genome

Whole-genome sequencing

Reads non-coding DNA as well. Most consumer and first-line questions are still answered in the exome. We sequence the genome when the case requires it.

Library preparation

Library on site. Sequence and report in this laboratory.

Prep

On-site library preparation

Libraries are prepared in this laboratory. Low-input methods (down to about 100 pg) and a short bench time — typically a few hours, with limited hands-on work.

Sequence

MiSeq and NovaSeq

Targeted hereditary and carrier panels run on MiSeq. Exome-scale and batched consumer libraries run on NovaSeq when the read count needs production output.

Menu

Consumer genomic tests, as ordered.

Whole-exome sequencing is the default when the question is broader than a defined gene set. Confirm reportable content when you order.

Test What is read Typical use
Whole-exome sequencing (WES) Protein-coding exons across the genome (~1% of DNA) Unexplained disease, hereditary risk, consumer health workups
Hereditary cancer NGS BRCA1/2 and related hereditary genes via targeted library prep Personal or family history of hereditary cancer
Carrier screening Recessive and X-linked genes as ordered Preconception or family-history carrier questions
Whole-genome sequencing (WGS) Coding and non-coding sequence When the exome is not enough

These are laboratory-developed methods. Not all tests are FDA-cleared. Reportable genes, coverage, and turnaround are confirmed when you order. Nothing is charged on this website.
